Case study: Health and Safety – CDM Coordinator London
Founded in 1895 London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) have developed their educational programmes and improved campus facilities to become one of London’s top Universities and globally recognised as a leader in the Social Sciences.
Due to the popularity of LSE’s offering they needed to expand their facilities in the City of London with more open spaces and improved amenities for students. This redevelopment will see the complete demolition of several buildings along Clare Market and Houghton Street, currently the epicentre of the University, before construction can commence. The Centre Building is a substantial project for LSE, requiring an experienced CDM Coordinator to support them through design, planning and construction phases.
Solution from MSAFE
MSAFE are working with LSE as their CDM Coordinator providing a CDM advisory service at the early stages of the complex demolition project. It is paramount to provide construction safety advice and support that will allow construction to progress quickly and take into consideration public safety. MSAFE provided several practical solutions to mitigate any potential health and safety risks to the public. MSAFE continue to support the Principal Designer and building contractors during the construction phase helping with construction design management, assisting the contractors implement their own duties, and co-ordinating the health and safety processes throughout the project.
“We appointed MSAFE as our CDM Coordinator for our new Centre Buildings Project and have been very pleased with the level of service and advice we have received. MSAFE have a strong track record in assisting the Estates Team on health and safety matters on numerous projects to date.”
